The Mexico Story

Many people have asked why we moved to Mexico.  Actually, Kris and I loved Uruguay.  However there were several things that figured in our decision to move here to Mexico.
Those areas had to do with the cost of living -- especially rent and food prices -- and the fact that for 9 months out of the year the town we lived in was basically empty because so much of the property has been purchased by expats who mainly stay there December, January, February, and part of March (basically until Carnival is over).  Most of those are from Argentina, some from Europe and some from the Americas.
There was a health issue of high humidity and mold health problems as well.  We had looked at Mexico 10 years ago so the move was a natural one for us to make while we could!

When choosing a place to live outside your home country, you need to make a list and then proceed to check off or tick the boxes that mean the most to you.  I call those deal-breakers.
It just happens that Mexico fills most all of our desired qualities for a place to live.
We stepped off the plane here in Mexico and we could energetically feel life!  Even as tired as we were, we could feel a huge difference in the atmosphere.
That's never gone away.
I guess that's why it gives me such pleasure to share with you what life is like here.

Here at Lakeside we rarely work alone.  So when we need information or help,
we talk to each other!  What a concept, right?
I have chosen three videos for you that will give you a very good
idea of the atmosphere here in this part of Mexico.
I'm thrilled to be here and to have the opportunity to be of service and to
enjoy the warmth of the Mexicans as well as the inclusiveness
of the expat community.  By the way, the restaurant owner Agustin, and
his restaurant is where we fill the bags of food, and it is also the
distribution point where the people come and pick up their share
for the week.  A certain group of the kids receives a bag of
food on Friday as well.
The restaurant is called Viva Mexico!  Good food --- Good Prices!

FOCUS ON MEXICO
Focus on Mexico has an outstanding program for those who would like to find out if Mexico is for them.  I took the Pilot for a brand new online course they hope to publish soon.  But I live lakeside and have also lived in 3 different countries.  If you want the real experience of actually getting to know others with similar wishes to yours, and if you want to get all the necessary information to make an informed decision, you should visit http://www.focusonmexico.com
It is worth every penny and every minute!
Be sure to tell Michael I sent you.
(He didn't pay me either! :))

THE LAKE CHAPALA SOCIETY
is one of those places that you can't help but appreciate!  I'm a member and use their services as often as possible.  As a member, you enjoy fun classes free or for very little money, receive a directory of other members, enjoy the grounds in the gardens, eat at the restaurant, and visit people who are there for fun too!
This video talks a lot about what retirees enjoy about The Lake Chapala Society, but the fact is there are quite a lot of people who are not retired, or still have children at home, who have moved here to Lakeside and as members they take advantage of all these goodies too, including an extensive video library!
You can reach them at: https://lakechapalasociety.com/public/index.php
OPERATION FEED
This video is on a subject that is very close to my heart.  I was invited to attend the Christmas Operation Feed distribution day and decided to go -- knowing no one, and wanting to help. It was a very big deal!
120 people are currently in the program divided in this way -- more or less 60 who are single mothers with children, and 50 or 60 single adults who have special needs such as illness, unable to work, etc.
At this Christmas distribution, they each recieved a complete Christmas dinner, clothing, 1 gift per person in the home, clothing, and a set of tupperware storage containers. I will never forget the looks on their faces!  I go there every Thursday morning at 8 a.m. to fill bags of food.
You, too, could be involved in one of these kinds of programs if you moved here -- there are several programs in each town -- Ajijic, Chapala, San Juan Cosala, and Jocotepec.
